Women represent only 19% of chefs, and 7% of head chefs, across the culinary world. Beyond that, women chefs earn 28% less in base pay than their male counterparts.
Grubhub recognized these issues and saw the need for serious change. So it started RestaurantHER to champion and support restaurants, and raise awareness about inequality in the restaurant industry and help change things for the better.
Grubhub is the nation’s leading online and mobile food ordering company, which allows it to reach more than 80,000 restaurant partners and over 14 million diners nationwide. Grubhub is uniquely positioned to make a positive impact on both sides, which is why it created RestaurantHER.
Through this initiative, Grubhub is proud to partner with Women Chefs & Restaurateurs (WCR), an active resource for women seeking to advance culinary education and gain recognition in the food and beverage industry.
Through the RestaurantHER initiative, Grubhub will contribute $1 up to $1 million for every pledge to dine in or order delivery from women-led restaurants now through the end of Women’s History Month in March. The first $100,000 of this pledge will be contributed to WCR to help advance women leadership in restaurants by providing resources for women seeking to advance culinary education and gain recognition in the food industry.
Grubhub and WCR are also developing tools for aspiring women chefs and culinary leaders to help them navigate and address the challenges they face in the restaurant industry.
From Grubhub to WCR and beyond, every RestaurantHER partner agrees that women in culinary deserve equitable opportunities and equitable pay. Across the business world, diverse workforces lead to better business outcomes. And promoting equity for women is simply the right thing to do. RestaurantHER is an initiative that enables diners, culinary leaders and industry organizations to work together toward these goals.
